Dakh Daughters
About:
Dakh Daughters, who call themselves a ‘freak-cabaret’, are seven actresses who have taken up musical instruments in order to create life-affirming performances about love, freedom, and beauty – things, they say, at the end of the day will save the world. Their lyrics are based on classical Ukrainian poetry, the greats of world literature, and their own works. The band’s work is about the desire to find new forms of popular music, to create a new space and context for living in today’s world and how one may find a new, creative energy in life.
The collective was set up in 2012 at Kyiv’s Dakh Theatre. Dakh Daughters released two studio albums, If (2016) and Air (2019). Dakh Daughters also wrote the soundtrack to the film Hutsulka Ksenia, which won the top prize at the Ukrainian Film Academy. The band has released three official videos and a documentary about the band is currently in production.
